There’s a rhyme AND a reason

Poetry has a distinctive style and rhythm, it’s a way to express creativity. It’s also one of the clubs here at Northview High School.

The club is small, around 10 students. They meet every other Monday in Mrs. Tabor’s room from 2:40-3:20. It’s open to anyone, whether you’re experienced or curious to learn about the art of poetry.

Poetry club is a space to express your creativity with others who enjoy poetry as much as you.

“Language itself can be a form of art but people tend to push it away more than any other art form,” poetry club leader Rachel Lawson said.

Creative Writing is always a class option, yet it doesn’t run every year.

So, often kids are left with few creative writing options and another year of writing research papers and essays.

“Our school really lacks creativity in so many capacities,” Lawson said.

Due to English state curriculum there isn’t much room for teachers to teach creative expression, although some lightly touch on the subject throughout the year.

“Having a place for creative writing can be much more beneficial as a means of expression and learning,” Lawson said.
