Working “9 to 5” isn’t just a Dolly Parton song, and doesn’t apply just to adults; it’s an anthem for students like Hannah Hoover.

Senior Hannah Hoover had taken on many roles since the start of her high school career. If people kept records of student extracurriculars, Hoover might have the championship belt. She undertakes 14 extracurriculars, Hoover undertakes Varsity girls soccer, Varsity sideline cheer, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Green team, senior class president, concert choir, From the Top, wind ensemble, marching band drum major, board of education representative, Varsity Voices, National Honor Society (NHS), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and yearbook. Hoover came from Chandler Woods Charter Academy her freshman year, and has loved Northview upon arrival.

For Hoover, a packed schedule is just part of daily life — even something she enjoys.

“I’ll get to school early for a meeting, and then I have a rehearsal right after school to 5:30. Then I have another rehearsal from 6:00 to 8:30,” Hoover said. “Then I have homework when I get home. But I also just love to be busy, and I love what I do, so it’s not an exertion that I don’t like.”

Hoover embraces the responsibilities that come with being a senior class president, finding purpose in representing her peers and building new positive connections.

“I love being senior class president. I love speaking in front of people. That’s a big part of it, especially when it comes to end-of-the-year speeches for the senior class,” Hoover said. “I also love Julie  Haveman, and I love the people on student council. It’s just a really comfortable and fun environment for me.”

Reflecting on the people who have supported her throughout her musical journey, Hoover highlighted the lasting impact of one particular mentor, Mr. Philipson.

“He’s been there a lot for musicals every year, starting freshman and sophomore years, before I did anything with a cappella. He’s just always my encouragement, and he has helped me through all of it,” Hoover said.

Although Hoover only joined last year, she has already created long-lasting memories with SADD.

“My most memorable event is the prom assembly. It’s just fun, and it’s also really impactful,” Hoover said. “It’s watching your classmates go through something extremely realistic and traumatizing that could happen to them if they make bad decisions.”

Sideline cheer was a childhood dream for Hoover. Once her sophomore year rolled around, the dream came true.

“I really just loved the entire experience. I loved tumbling, I loved stunting, and just having the opportunities that I had been wanting to do over my whole life,” Hoover said.

Junior Summer Swanzy has known Hoover since her freshman year. They met through Varsity Voices and theater. As the days unfolded, their friendship bloomed like a flower in spring.

“Having her for a friend just means the world to me.
She’s always there for me when I need her,” Swanzy said.  “She is a really great model to have in my life.”

Those around Hoover have taken notice of her motivated personality.

“[She’s] a driven, hardworking person. I think she just likes being involved in a lot of things, and I respect her for that,” Swanzy said.

Hoover’s standout quality isn’t just her exceptional work ethic—it’s also her remarkable ability to elevate and inspire those around her.

“I think she brightens [people’s] day. I think she just has a positive effect on everybody. Just with her presence and her dedication to things,” Swanzy said.

Educator Julie Haveman has known Hoover since her dedication to student council her freshman year.  Haveman and Hoover have a ‘mother-daughter’ type of relationship, and always look out for one another.

“Hannah is a hard-working, positive, and friendly young lady,” Haveman said. “Hannah knows me as her student council advisor and maybe a little bit as her ‘school mom’.”

Haveman has noticed Hoover’s growth and how she has always been a natural-born leader.

“She is well spoken, confident, and organized. She has always been a leader, even during her freshman year, but she continues to grow,” Haveman said.

All the clubs, sports, and music Hoover participated in paid off. Her skills added extra value to her education and left her with multiple abilities.
