To many, our lives inside the high school are separate from our home lives. However, many of us do not think about what teachers do outside of school. These are their stories.
Spanish teacher, Carl Marsh works with his own construction company, Carl Marsh Handyman Services. He is a certified group fitness instructor, and teaches spin classes all around town, some as early as five a.m.!
English teacher, B.J. Schroeder is both the varsity wrestling coach and head freshman football coach at Catholic Central. He started coaching at Catholic Central so he could be closer to his children. He coached Northview football from 1993 to 2012 and making the move was “One of the hardest decisions that I ever had to make.”
Band director, Greg Wells not only directs the band in competitions around the state, but he also teaches the cheerleaders gymnastics skills. Although never formally trained as a cheerleader, he has been “Coaching and judging gymnastics, mostly trampoline and tumbling for a long time now.” His plate may be full, but he still makes time to be an amazing dad to his four kids.
Choir teacher, Jack Phillipson is a competitive water skier, who has competed all across the state as well as the country. He started competing when he was four and has loved it ever since, ”I water skied on Grand Valley State team, and water ski with all kinds of people from all over.”
Whether it’s a spin class or water skiing, every teacher has their hobbies, jobs and little things in their lives that make them all the more enjoyable.
