Freshman Alexa Kunter has been rising to the top. Literally. After cheering for only her second season, she has plans to make a name for herself.

“[Alexa is] super talented and has a lot of potential. I know she’ll become a really good cheerleader,” senior and captain Alexandra Thiessen said.

Becoming a flyer was something Kunter always wanted to do and that dream is finally becoming a reality. With the support of her bases, Kunter feels as though she can accomplish anything.

“Supporting each other, and cheering one another on and also gaining trust is a big part of it. You’re going high in the air you need to be able to trust that your bases will catch you,” Kunter said. “You get a really strong bond from that”.

Cheerleaders not only cheer on the football team each Friday night, but they also support one another. Kunter brings positivity and happiness to every practice and game. Always having a smile on her face, Kunter continuously cheers on her teammates when attempting a new skill or stunt.

“She brings a positive attitude to the team. I hope that her work ethic and positive attitude rubs off on her teammates,” assistant coach Kris Walendzik said.

On a cheer squad, teammates quickly become family. Through hanging out every day at practice, you become close with the girls on your team and the bonds become strong. Kunter believes that “this is what cheer is all about”.

“I’ve never been so close to a team before until I did cheer,” Kunter said.

To be successful at cheer, cheerleaders must be hardworking and give it their best effort. Each practice, Kunter knows she wants to be successful and does everything to make that possible.

“Alexa is very hardworking and when she wants something she always goes for it,” Thiessen said.
