Small business spotlight: The Honeysuckle Co.

Across the street from Anna’s House on Plainfield sits a faded red wood building, resembling a barn. Though it looks inconspicuous, behind the pale yellow door sits a store buzzing with a welcoming energy.

Walking into The Honeysuckle Co., there is a good chance one will be met with the smiling face of Alyssa Wozniak, one of the owners. Along with her sister and mother, Breann and Amy, Alyssa has run the store since November 2018.

The Honeysuckle Co. specializes in antiques and events. With an abundance of unique items gathered around the store, it radiates a home-like feel.

In its antique shop, The Honeysuckle Co. keeps a variety of objects. The store has sold antiques since November of last year.

Walking further into the antique store, there is a room filled with wooden tables and vibrant red chairs. This space hosts events such as baby showers, engagement parties, and painting classes.

“[The Honeysuckle Co. is] just a place to hang out and have fun and be part of a community together,” Wozniak said.

To Wozniak, The Honeysuckle Co. is more than just antiques and an event space. It combines all of her passions and interests, while also holding memories of her grandmother.

“[My grandmother] always told us stories about this small little store that she and her sister used to work at called The Honeysuckle,” Wozniak said.

She describes how The Honeysuckle Co. seemed like the perfect name for the family business as it incorporated something from their past. Although the store her grandmother worked at no longer exists, The Honeysuckle Co. now thrives with the support of Wozniak’s family.

Wozniak sits in her event space. With the goal of providing a space of community, The Honeysuckle Co. has hosted a variety of events and classes.

Northview may not be overflowing with antique lovers, but with Wozniak’s plans for the future, The Honeysuckle Co. may soon become a hot spot for students.

“Long term, I want to turn [The Honeysuckle Co.] into a coffee shop, so it’d be a hangout spot for students,” Wozniak said. “The hope would be to have a place where everyone feels comfortable to come and hang out.”
