Northview high school computer technician Marcus Morris keeps Northview running and supported behind the scenes. From working on chromebook repairs. As well as going on trips in the district to help Northview schools.
The last two years have been challenging for Morris. The pandemic created a confusing time for everyone, and the tech department especially faced struggles with students and school chromebooks.
“It’s been great, but there have been days where it’s been really really difficult and exhausting,” Morris said.
Despite the occasional difficulties, Morris has always had a fascination with computers as well as the arts.
“Growing up as a hobby I would work on computers, I would build my own computers,” Morris said.
Morris even built his own PC at twelve years old. He was known in his hometown as the “computer guy.” Morris was always looking on how to advance his skills, especially by helping out others. He would go to the public library after school and work on the computers there.
“I’d always helped them and eventually it just kinda became a part time gig when I was a teenager,” Morris said.
When Morris started college he sent in an application to work for Apple in a part time job, not thinking much of it.
“Next thing I know I’m getting a phone call from the regional manager for all the Apple stores in this part of the United states asking me to come in for an interview,” Morris said.
Morris worked at Apple for a little over a decade as a full time employee, he worked in customer service, and in the corporate realm, which both improved his computer skills. He owes much of his higher level computer skills to working at Apple.
“I never had any computer certifications before I worked at Apple, I got them all there,” Morris said.
When Morris worked at Apple, a friend of his that worked here at Northview would brag about how fun the school was. It created another opportunity for Morris.
“I was at a point in my life where I felt like I needed a change, and I needed a change for the better,” Morris said.
Morris sent an application to work at Northview in 2014, and shortly after they admitted him to the tech department.
“Essentially my tech team has become my family, and everyday we have great adventures together,” Morris said.
While making good memories with his colleagues and team members, Morris has created a fun atmosphere to work in. Keysha Hanes, a friend and colleague of Morris’s, admires how well Morris works, and how friendly he is with others.
“He’s definitely outgoing and willing to interact with people, he’s got a fun personality to be around,” Hanes said.
Morris loves to goof off with his team, and play small pranks on them. There’s never a dull moment in the tech department with their jokes.
“We’re really just big kids, like we get our work done, but we also joke around while we’re doing it,” Morris said.
Morris continues to love his time here at Northview, and it would take a lot for him to give up working here.
“There is just something you get working here at Northview that you can’t find anywhere else,” Morris said.
