Walking our halls exists a young woman going above and beyond the traditional role of a hallway monitor. Kelsie Bovee is a dedicated and hard-working campus supervisor. While monitoring the halls, Bovee inspires students to reach their full potential.
Bovee’s journey from a small town in Hemlock to the vibrant high school environment helped pave a career path. Graduating from Grand Haven and attending Grand Valley for college, she was introduced to the high school through a job at the fitness center. After a year she applied and earned a campus supervisor position in January 2024.
In her new role, she now embraces a commitment to safety and a passion for teaching the next generation. At Grand Haven High School, Bovee ran cross country for four years. She spent grades 2nd to 12th playing soccer. Her job at the fitness center pushed her to combine a degree in clinical science with strength and condition coaching.
“I went to school for clinical exercise science, so it’s totally different from teaching, but working here has kind of made me realize I want to combine the two,” Bovee said.
Bovee desires to integrate scientific principles as an approach to teaching students physical education.
“I feel like exercise science can be such a relevant thing to the school setting because school sports and just the knowledge it can teach you about your health and just the different combined fitness techniques in the school’s sports setting,” Bovee said. I think it’s important, especially in sports.”
Bovee is constantly cultivating relationships, but sometimes it’s difficult because students are often afraid to approach a new adult in the building. Her genuine affection ensures a positive and respectful environment between both students and school staff. Sophomore Moran knows firsthand the impact Bovee has on the students with which she engages.
“I think she’s a really sweet person and she’s really easy to talk to. I just feel like people that don’t know her get intimidated by her,” Moran said.
Bovee is a great cheerleader when it comes to getting people to head to class and be on time. Sophomore Amaya Moore constantly notices when Bovee is encouraging.
“She will always stop and try to talk to somebody it doesn’t matter if you’re busy or not, she’s willing to talk to you,” Moore said. “She will help you with any questions you got she’s nice in the hallway too, you can just go up to her have a conversation with her and it’s really nice.”
Bovee’s academic and athletic experiences have converged where she is not only influencing the lives of students but also redefining her own career. Her journey inspires students as her passion and education intersect, leaving a definitive mark on the community.
“I love it here. I don’t really see myself leaving, at least for a long time,” Bovee said.
