Spring break staycation

Savana Spencer is hanging out with her friends Ben Warner, Celia Wilson and Claira Warner.

In Michigan, spring break typically consists of snow and cold weather.  Because of this, students and families escape to warmer weather during break. With Spring Break approaching, many get the opportunity to travel to different states, or even countries. However, many students will also have a staycation at home. Staying at home may become boring at times, but there are many activities for all ages around Grand Rapids.

Senior Savanah Spencer is staying home for spring break.

“I usually [stay home] every year because it’s unnecessary spending,” Spencer said. “I feel like everyone goes somewhere, [but] it’s kinda fun to chill at home, especially because it’s not as busy.”

Spencer describes how she spends her time relaxing at home while on break.

“I like to read a lot,” Spencer said. “I set little reading challenges, like reading five books over break. I’ll even finish a TV show, or go thrifting with my friends.”

Although many students go away during this time, Spencer still has many friends near her to be able to have a good break.

“Most of my friends [stay home for break] and they live in about a five mile radius so we can hang out. When I do [get bored], I usually just rewatch or watch a TV show,” Spencer said.

Although it may seem like there’s not much to do during spring break, there are many places around town one can go to.
