Claim Your Campus [CYC] is a national organization that allows students to organize prayer groups at their school. According to the organization’s website, there are over 67,000 clubs in schools across the United States.
Freshmen Nora Bierens, Jillian Brown, and Sam Wilde decided to create their own student-led group at the high school. They meet every Thursday morning at 7:28 in room 2102.
“We wanted to see a change in our school with more love, acceptance, and most of all confidence,” Brown said.
The idea first came when Brown and Bierens attended a summer camp where they had a CYC representative come and talk to the campers. The pair went to Wilde to discuss the idea and asked him what he thought.
Not too long after the three started planning, they held their first meeting in November. What had started out with four students grew significantly within the first few weeks to 25 members.
“The amount of kids we have right now is pretty awesome to see. I didn’t expect for it to grow to as big as it is right now,” Wilde said.
Despite the rapid growth, the group values the amount of students they impact praying more than the attendance of every meeting.
During the meetings, the group utilizes the CYC app, which provides Bible verses that pertain to the topic of discussion for the week. They use the topic and verses to have a member pray to help Northview, along with other schools across America.
“Members get a sense of peace and confidence knowing they’re making a difference in our school,” Brown said.
