With intense practice sessions and fierce determination to win, the girls varsity golf team works together honing down on their swings to bring home a win for Northview.
On September 24th, the Northview girls varsity golf team heads off to Railside to compete at their seventh jamboree. The team honors their seniors on their last match before the conference showing their appreciation for all the dedication they’ve put into the team. These girls have been putting in serious work for this match. The team has been grinding it out on the course, dedicating countless hours to perfect their skills. Their commitment to training has built a strong team, making this a meaningful celebration for the seniors. With their focus and determination, the team is ready to compete and make an unforgettable senior night.
Coach Jim Havemans’ rigorous practice sessions have focused their ability to handle the nuances of the game, making sure they are prepared to excel in high pressure situations on the course.
“Each day we go out and spend time chipping and putting. Those are the two most important skills to be good on a golf course. You can hit a bad shot, but make up for it with chipping and putting…So, I would say chipping and putting are the top two most important skills,” Haveman said.
The emphasis on precision has inspired players like senior Grace Laflure to focus on their personal goals, pushing them to perfect different aspects of their games to boost their performance and contribute to their teams success.
“I’m just trying to shoot the best I can. I’ve been practicing pretty hard,” LaFlure said. “I’ve been practicing my chipping a lot because I’ve been messing up on that and I think that will help lower my score.”

Haveman believes as the team prepares for a crucial point in their season, maintaining a calm, stable mindset has become essential to the girls game.
“My goal for the girls is by that time of the season, it’s the last jamboree before the conference match. So going in feeling confident and playing the best that they can. So that would be my main goal. And my number one goal I always tell the girls is the reason you’re out there is to have fun and so not to get nervous and enjoy the experience,” Haveman said.
Maintaining composure under pressure is a key to this match. Junior Molly Quist believes the mental side is a number one priority when competing.
“You really just have to calm yourself down and then not think about it as much and try and not get in your head,” Quist said.
Channeling their focus and preparation, the girls are heading towards their final jamboree before their conference. Rally behind them, send words of encouragement, and wish them every bit of luck, and give a special shout out to our Northview seniors celebrating their senior night.
