With the amount of creative and driven students, there are many opportunities for extracurricular activities for every individual interested in practicing or learning a skill they are passionate about. Listed below are the current active clubs formed by students. Please note there are many other inactive clubs waiting for student interest, and a few that declined to be in the article.

Art Club

Adviser: Tanya Lockwood
Meetings: Wednesdays from 2:45pm-4pm

Part of the National Arts Honor Society, or NAHS. Their mission is to promote opportunities and improve students’ artistic skills.

Debate Club

Adviser: Mark Mason
Meetings: Tuesdays from 2:45pm-4pm

Debate teaches students how to research well, how to construct a good argument, how to develop public speaking skills, and helps students understand government debate and current events that are happening globally and in the US.

“I think that [debate], more than any other academic activity, helps prepare kids for college,” Mason said.

From The Top A Cappella

Adviser: Jack Phillipson
Meetings: Disclosed after October audition

From The Top is an auditioned a cappella group available to students involved in the band or choir program. The group performs pop, alternative, rock, and all other contemporary genres with only their voices. From The Top performs at Vocal Music concerts, travels to competitions, and even creates studio recordings throughout the year.

Green Team (Formerly ALPs)

Adviser: Sarah Snyder
Meetings: First Wednesday of every month

This club is a great way to meet new people and help make our school more “green”. If students need service hours, or just want to get involved with recycling, the GREEN TEAM is for them.

National Honor Society (NHS)

Adviser: Chris Atchison
Meetings: Monthly on Thursday mornings at 7am, by invite

The purpose of the NHS shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.

The ROAR

Adviser: Matt Howe
Meetings: 3rd Hour (sign up when registering for classes)

Journalism class publishes student interest news stories. It is a club embedded into the school day for aspiring writers that publish for an online website, The Roar. Students take journalism first as a “J1” which is essentially a journalistic writing boot camp. After that, students become a “J2” and write for The Roar.

Science Olympiad

Adviser: Brian Hendricks
Meetings: Biweekly

Science Olympiad is a team that competes in academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 team events. Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation.

Student Council

Adviser: Julie Haveman
Meetings: Tuesdays at 7am (elected each Spring)

Student Council is a group of students elected by their peers to represent the voice of the student body. Student Council is associated with planning assemblies and dances, and is primarily a service group to the community.

“We are hoping to bring back all of the school spirit activities that make us proud to be Wildcats,” Haveman said.

Volunteer Club

Adviser: Sarah Snyder
Meetings: Posted monthly in announcements

For students who are willing to give their time and service to their community, this is the club for you. Volunteer club is a variety of volunteering opportunities focused around Northview.

Yearbook

Adviser: Matt Howe
Meetings: 4th Hour (sign up when registering for classes)

Yearbook creates and publishes (and pays for publishing) of a 225-page yearbook yearly. Students tell the story of the school year in pictures and words for peers to enjoy come book distribution in June. Students learn how to design pages, take photos, and tell the story of our school events.
