Who needs the NFL (National Football League) when you’ve got Powderpuff? From trick plays to sideline sass, the girls put on a show with plenty of attitude, laughs and touchdowns.
Powderpuff is where the roles of girls and boys switch in football. Girls take the field, running the ball, tackling, and catching passes; as boys cheer on the sidelines with stunts and chants. The game took place on Wednesday, October 1st, at 7:00 p.m. It cost five dollars admission. The game altogether raised $1,000.00 for administration to support high school students and staff. The boys from the football team participated in coaching the girls in football, as the high school cheer team coached the boys in cheer. Many Northview fans showed up to support the junior and senior teams and to see who won the day.
The senior powderpuff girls had multiple tactics that were successful. Senior Joshua Bauer was a helpful coach in making sure these strategies were possible.
“We ran 3 or 4 different plays on defense and stuck to those plays, and it worked pretty well,” Bauer said.
Participating in powderpuff is a fun experience for Northview students. Senior Elyse Fix played her last year of powderpuff and made great memories with her peers.
“I liked how it was very competitive, and I got to play with all my friends,” Fix said.
As the junior team tried their best to make some successful plays, their coach junior Dylan Castro encouraged his team to take risks on some big plays that could end in touchdowns.
“We had a couple of trick plays, but they didn’t work out,” Castro said.
Playing on the junior team was a struggle for some to keep positive about the game score when they fell behind early. Junior Cora Combs remained mentally strong by encouraging her peers.

“We actually did a lot better than we thought we were gonna do. A lot of friendships were grown, people got closer because of the time we were spending together,” Combs said.
On the sidelines, the boys cheered while performing tricks, ranging from toe touches to back handsprings. Sophomore Oliver Nibbelink enjoyed his first cheerleading experience.

“I really liked stunting with everyone. It was enjoyable and we were collaborating as a team,” Nibbelink said.
In the end, the seniors took the win by a score of 26-0. Good sportsmanship was demonstrated throughout the game, and many friendships grew closer. Next year, make sure you get to the stadium Wednesday of homecoming week, in order to watch the classes of 2027 and 2028 face off in another Powderpuff spectacular!
