We are greatly appreciative of the grant we received from the NEF and we are excited to venture into new territories with all the equipment we were able to purchase.

2021/22 Editorial Board

On October 5, 2021 The Roar took a giant leap in the direction of diversifying the content of their publication. Weeks of preparation and planning by Co-Editors, Calvin Hyde, Olivia Austin and Victoria Scovel paid off in the form of a grant provided by the Northview Education Foundation (NEF).

The grant provided has been used to purchase a new videography camera, microphones, tripod, and SD cards. So say hello to the new broadcast journalism branch of The Roar!

“This is the first time The Roar has applied for something like this and being able to have a top notch camera and audio setup is going to allow The Roar to expand in ways that we haven’t been able to before,” Co-Editor Calvin Hyde said.

This new chapter of The Roar not only will improve the viewing experience of content on the website, but will also improve the competitive rating that the publication is given every year through Michigan State University.

“Every year we send in our publication for a rating and it’s evaluated on different categories. We won the second highest category you can win, but the category that we lacked the most in [to win] was in digital media,”Co-Editor  Olivia Austin said.

The Roar has big goals to obtain the “Spartan Award,” the highest award that a Michigan high school can win through the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association through Michigan State University.

For students, staff, and the Northview Community alike, awards may not be the biggest concern, but The Roar staff members hope that the recent upgrades make the viewing experience much more enjoyable.

“Make sure you keep checking out the website to see new stuff because now that we have new equipment, we’re able to do new things that interest [you] when maybe nothing interested [you] before,” Austin said.
