122 Northview High School teachers get ready each morning for another day of influencing student lives. They open the doors to their class in preparation for students to fly in with questions, conflicts, and a fresh mind to learn.

Every teacher teaches in their own style, and every student learns in a different form. Having a teacher who understands how individual students learn can make class easier and less stressful. Teaching concepts alone does not make you a good teacher. Being a successful and reliable teacher comes from not only helping students learn but also connecting with them by listening to their opinions and treating them with respect. Every student deserves a teacher who they can rely on, trust and learn from. For me, Nate Lisenbee is this teacher.

From personal experience with Lisenbee as my Pre-Ap World History teacher, I can certainly say Lisenbee is one of the best teachers you can find. I have always struggled with history and focusing in class for as long as I can remember, but as soon as I got to high school and had Lisenbee as my world history teacher, suddenly history wasn’t difficult and stressful for me, but rather, my favorite class. Lisenbee makes history enjoyable; he teaches at a pace I can easily handle. Even Lisenbee’s classroom environment helps me be able to pay attention. The absence of bright lights and the calm environment helps me stay on task and enjoy class.

Freshman student Julia Nguyen takes Pre-Ap World History with Lisenbee. She is pleased with the way he presents himself to his students in a calm and collected manner.

“He talks in a way where it’s friendly, but still in a teacher way,” Nguyen said.

For Nguyen, not only does she like the way Lisenbee talks to his students, but she also enjoys the comfort that comes with their student-teacher relationship.

“I feel like most of my teachers haven’t really tried to connect with me as a student. But Mr. Lisenbee, I feel comfortable asking him questions,” Nguyen said.

Senior Christian Draper, who had Lisenbee during his freshman and junior years, is thrilled with the way Lisenbee treats his students with honesty and kindness.

“I’d say Mr. Lisenbee is my favorite teacher because he doesn’t treat you like a child. He kind of gives you a little bit of respect, and he’s not gonna lie to you, he’s gonna be real with you, he’s just an honest guy,” said Draper.

Lisenbee also helped Draper outside of class.

“There was an essay last year that I had to write for A.P. Lang, and he helped me make it sound more professional,” Draper said.

Lisenbee is always there to help a student out and give them a stress-free class environment. He’s always been an honest teacher and is one of the most truthful teachers you can meet. He’s always available to lend a hand and be an excellent teacher any day; he will always be found outside of room 1249 eating an apple and waiting for his next class to arrive.
