It’s a cliché thing to say, but senior year goes by extremely fast. Before you know it, you’ll be wearing a cap and gown in a room full of people you’ll probably never see again. It’s a sad yet exciting time. Most people remember their senior year because a great deal of exciting things happen.
Senior Privileges
As a 12th grader, you’re on top of the food chain. From the moment freshman year began, you’ve awaited the moment you could tell people you are a senior. Now that the time is here, you get senior privileges. No more finding ways to sneak out of school for lunch. No more hearing “Go home, freshman!” No more watching these unknown upperclassmen be chosen for homecoming court because you have the power to choose that now!
In addition to these benefits, one of the greatest freedoms that comes with being a senior is early release. Northview lets the seniors out earlier than most other schools in the area. The additional month of summer allows students to relax before their life becomes chaotic during college.
Also, there’s respect that comes with being in your last year of high school. No one is going to judge you for wearing pajamas to school, and you can use senioritis as an excuse for almost everything! Didn’t do the homework? Senioritis. Didn’t show up to the first 3 hours of school? Senioritis. Didn’t wake up from the nap you took at lunch? Senioritis.
Of course there are many other exciting events that accompany senior year like the Cedar Point trip, the senior all night party, and much more.
Applying to colleges
Applying to colleges is definitely a stressful time. You have to narrow down the colleges you want to apply to, get teacher recommendations and make sure your grades are perfect, all while having due dates loom over your head.
Despite all the stress, no one can deny the excitement that comes when you finally push the “submit” button to finish an application. For the majority of students this moment was long anticipated.
There’s also something exhilarating about thinking about life beyond high school and not knowing exactly what the future holds.
Counting down the days until graduation
At first it seems like an eternity away. Then it’s 6 months away, 2 weeks away. And finally, it’s the day of graduation. Counting down the days makes you appreciate senior year more, knowing that you only have a limited time left with the people who you’ve spent the last twelve years of your life with.
