After having their season extended two months, the girls state swim and dive team gave it their all on January 15th and 16th, 2021.
Their season started in August 2020, swimming at the Northville Park Association’s outdoor pool due to the closure of indoor pools at that time. They always found a way to get back in the water, no matter the restrictions.
The girls went from hoping for a season at all to breaking eight out of thirteen total school records.
“As a coach, it is so rewarding to see my athletes’ hard work pay off in such a spectacular fashion. There was even more need for a reward of broken records because this year was even longer and more difficult due to COVID,” said coach Tim Sugiyama.
On January 15, Northview High School held the MHSAA state dive meet. Juliette Kaltenberg placed 18th out of 29 divers.
Continuing on January 16, Northview High school held the MHSAA state swim meet. The girls took third place out of over 30 teams, breaking seven school records.
Freshman Addy Forbes took 1st place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.15, along with taking 4th place in the 200IM with a school record time of 2:07.90, earning an All-State honor along with, Hasten Horling, Peyton Oade, Maddie Tay and Jamie Forbes.
“I did better than I thought I would. I got a [personal record] in my 100 free and I gained time for 100 back but it’s okay. I performed to the best of my abilities with the training that I had, all and all i’m pretty proud.” said Sophomore Evan Arnold.
The lady wildcats performed astonishingly throughout the entire season but collectively wrapped up another successful year.
Great kids performing to their abilities and beyond 👍❤️
