Crash! The final bowling ball hits the pins, signifying the end of the 2024-2025 bowling season and the start of another. The bowling team entered the season with many goals and is leaving with new hopes and dreams.

The bowling team started the second week in November, and the season ended the second week of February. The team practiced at Northfield Lanes on Plainfield every day from 3:30 to 5 pm. The Wildcats faced off against six schools throughout the season and attended many tournaments. The bowling team had matches every week, varying which days, usually starting at 3:00 pm. The team of six girls and six boys ended the season with the boys winning the OK gold championship and the girls coming in fifth place last weekend.

Senior Ethan Gerkin joined the varsity team this year after gaining two years of valuable experience on the JV team.  Despite graduating this year, Gerkin has no worries about the 2024-2025 team’s physical bowling skills but does see room for improvement on the mental side of the game.

“I think they[next year’s team] could improve their energy and positivity,” Gerkin said. “I hope they can continue that once the other seniors and I leave.”

The bowling team is champions year after year, which can come with a lot of pressure. Junior bowler Ryan Maycroft agrees with Gerkin and hoped the team would have had more liveliness this season.

“I wished we had more fun instead of taking things seriously,” Maycroft said.

Junior Alexis VanZandt joined the team sophomore year as well, and she is content with the outcome of their season.

“We have come a long way, especially since we lost two players last year,” VanZandt said. “We are becoming better as a team and working harder.”

The bowling team had an exceptional season. They ended with an Ok gold championship and made unforgettable memories they will never forget. This season was a milestone for all on the team. For some, it was the end of the sport they love, and for others, it is motivation for the seasons to come.
