Junior Kyle Pitchure made an impression on the hockey team the second his skates hit the ice in tryouts.
Pitchure made the varsity team as a freshman and is now entering his third season in the program. He looks to take his game to the next level.
“It’s exciting to see what he will do now that he’s an upperclassmen,” varsity hockey coach Travis Nichol said. “He is one of those players that you don’t have to worry about. You know you will get someone who will give everything they have regardless of who we are playing.”
Nichol’s favorite trait of Pitchure is his versatility as a player.
“Although he is a forward he can also jump back and play defense, which is a valuable asset for any team,” Nichol commented on his skills.
Pitchure has been playing hockey since the 8th grade and believes there’s no feeling quite like being on the team.
“I love being with all my teammates and I enjoy the sport,” Pitchure said
In hockey games you have to be alert, and know the situations that are happening.
“It’s very high paced and you get this rush of adrenaline when the puck drops,” Pitchure said. “At that movement, every possible scenario runs through my head.”
Throughout his years playing hockey, Pitchure learned that an important part of being on any team is forming bonds with your peers.
“It’s important to form a family-like relationship with your teammates and coaches.” Pitchure said. “I would definitely say respect and chemistry are two good qualities in a teammate.”
For this upcoming year, a good junior season is in place for him with the experience and talent he has. With Pitchure’s work ethic, grit and leadership he could make it to the next level.
“I would love to make it to the junior level or maybe even college,” Pitchure said.
Coach Nichol has nothing but good things to say about Pitchure and the kind of player he is.
“He is someone who comes to practice everyday and leads by example with his effort. He has led by example in the weight room and putting in the work behind the scenes that has helped change the culture heading into 2021.”
