The annual junior versus senior Mandex game took place on February 22 after the varsity girls basketball game in the small gym.
The seniors established their self-proclaimed superiority with an early lead of 2-0. Senior Riley
Seniors Jake Domagalski and Cody Tierney paired up for a huge block that spurred a 9 point run. Despite a comeback effort from the juniors, the first set ended with a score of 21-13, seniors.
Continuing their domination from the first set, the seniors started the second up 7-3. The juniors called a timeout to regroup and went on to obtain their largest lead of the game after outscoring the seniors by 10 over the next 11 points.
Chris Mendez led the juniors with two kills during the second set, one of which was so powerful it got a cheer of “he’s our kicker” from the supporting juniors.
Down 8-13, the seniors knew they needed to step things up. Ethan Klaiss and Cody Tierney worked together to score 5 points in kills over the senior’s next eleven, tying the game at 19-19 and silencing the jeers coming from the other side of the net.
The juniors were able to get a point off of a strong hit from Carter Smith as they went up 20-19. The seniors then not only tied the game at 20-20, but scored the next two points as well. The seniors won the second set and subsequently, the game.
