Q: How long have you been playing?
A: I’ve been playing both basketball and soccer for as long as I can remember. This is my second year playing rugby on the Sparta Rock team.
Q: What motivates you?
A: I am motivated by myself along with my team. It takes a lot to get through a hard practice, but knowing that I am doing it for and with my team keeps me going.
Q: What was your best season? Why?
A: My best season was last year’s rugby season because we won the state championship and I started despite being a first year player.
Q: Why did you decide to start playing the sport you do?
A: I decided to play rugby because my friend encouraged me to do it and a ton of people told me I couldn’t, so I did.
Q: What is the ultimate goal you can imagine related to your sport?
A: I’m not playing any sports in college, so at this point my goal is to win as much as I can and go as far as possible in playoffs.
Q: What have been your biggest achievements in athletics?
A: My biggest achievement is being a rugby state champion and basketball conference champion.
Q: How do you think coaches can be more effective?
A: Honestly, every coach has their own style of coaching, but gaining the player’s trust and respect is imperative to being a good coach. So I think they need to gain that to be more effective along with being able to be firm with players and strict in practice.
Q: What are your main strengths in your sport?
A: In rugby my main strength is running the ball and playing 8-man (a position that has an important role in securing the possession of the ball).
Q: What do you need to improve?
A: In sports, you always need to keep improving everything. I’m not perfect and all areas of my sports could be improved. However, for me I think improving my mentality and how I look at situations could benefit me. This means having the mentality to push myself even through the hardest drills and toughest parts of the game.
Q: What do you like about training?
A: I like knowing that I’m getting better and improving myself. I also like pushing myself to my breaking point just to prove I can. I also enjoy the team aspect and getting to know and bond with new people.
Q: What do you dislike about training?
A: I don’t like how much it can wear your body down, especially in rugby.
Q: Who are your biggest inspirations?
A: My uncle is my biggest inspiration. Not only was he a boss at playing rugby but he comes to almost all of my games and helps me become a better player. He tells me what I need to change but also what I’m doing well.
