The varsity football team was itching to get back under lights and it showed in their much-anticipated home opener on Friday, September 18 against Greenville.

It was junior quarterback Carter Pell’s varsity debut, and he appeared poised and unshaken. Pell racked up 133 passing yards and 52 rushing yards, using his feet to dance into the endzone. He also connected with junior wide receiver Jalen Charity late in the game for a total of two touchdowns.

Charity played a key role in the receiving game with three catches for 68 yards on top of his touchdown snag. Some other noteworthy offensive performances were from senior running back Brett Johnson and slot receiver Jailen Tatum. Johnson turned on the jets early with a first quarter run 40 yards to the house to put the Wildcats on the board.

On the other side of the ball, the Wildcat defense held the Jackets to only 6 points in the first half and forced two interceptions, picked off by junior corner Byren Buckner and sophomore safety Easton Denton. Senior tackle Jovani Wilks and junior outside linebacker Da’Torian Roberts tied for the lead in tackles with 5.5 a piece by the end of the game.

The Wildcats outscored Greenville 30-12 when it was all said and done, starting their season 1-0.
