Christmas movie picks of 2022

Now that December has started, people are beginning to turn on the television, get cozy with a cup of hot chocolate, and enjoy their favorite Christmas movies. Need some recommendations? Here are a few that stick out to us every year.

Blumke’s Picks

“The Christmas Chronicles”

“The Christmas Chronicles” is a family Christmas comedy movie that, in my opinion, doesn’t get enough recognition. It follows siblings Teddy and Kate Pierce and their journey when they attempt to capture Santa Claus and end up on a wild adventure to save Christmas when the plan goes awry.

“The Holiday”

“The Holiday” is a hilarious Christmas romantic comedy that I loved when I first watched it. It follows Amanda and Iris, both unlucky in love and looking for a change. So, they agree to swap homes in each other’s countries for a while, and during this time they both end up in perfect, whirlwind romances with local guys. This movie is such a good watch, it provides two adorable romances while we see great character development from both Amanda and Iris.

“Happiest Season”

“Happiest Season” is a fairly new holiday romantic comedy. It follows Abby, who is planning to propose to her girlfriend, Harper, over the holidays while the couple stays with Harper’s family. While at Harper’s family’s house, Abby discovers that her partner isn’t out to her conservative parents. This movie captures a range of emotions while providing a great watch with the family.

“The Nightmare Before Christmas”

A Christmas movie or a Halloween movie? “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is an animated musical dark fantasy film that is a classic. It follows Jack Skellington, the king of Halloweentown, as he discovers Christmas Town and is instantly fascinated by the holiday. But, his attempts to bring the holiday to his hometown and bring Christmas under his control causes confusion and problems. This is a very unique movie in my opinion and one I enjoy watching every year.

Stoy’s Picks

¨Elf¨

“Elf” is a comedy and has become a classic that always comes on around Christmas time. It follows Buddy the elf as he travels to New York to find his dad, and the two worlds collide. He has no idea what the real world is like as he has lived at the North Pole with Santa his whole life.  Once Buddy finds his dad, he starts living with him and his family, but it doesn’t go as planned. This is a hilarious movie and I encourage you to watch this movie if you need a laugh.

¨How The Grinch Stole Christmas¨

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is a fun movie that will have the whole family watching. It follows the story of Whoville and the Grinch. Whoville is a town that loves celebrating Christmas and the Grinch is a creature who absolutely hates the holiday, so he goes into the town and steals everything Christmas related from their houses. But, he has a change of heart when Cindy Lou Who comes into his life and tries to convince him to like Christmas. I watch this movie every year, and I love it and you will too.

¨Home Alone¨

“Home Alone” was made 32 years ago but it still remains a Christmas classic. I loved this movie the first time I watched it and every time since. Home Alone follows the story of Kevin McCalister, an eight-year-old boy left home alone by his family as they leave to travel to Paris during Christmas. He then learns that two criminals are planning to rob his house. Kevin is determined to protect his home as he hopes his family realizes he isn’t with them and comes home. He is only a kid but he learns a lot of lessons in this movie.

¨National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation¨

“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is an older comedy movie that follows the Griswold family as they are trying to have a perfect Christmas. Perfect decorations, the perfect tree, perfect everything. However, things don’t go as planned. Although things don’t turn out the way the Griswolds wanted, they still have a good time (for the most part). This is a hilarious must-watch that will make you smile.
