Dory’s must watch Christmas Movies

Watching cheesy Christmas movies is a sacred tradition across the country. But for me, there are only a select few that I would watch again after the first time because of how unoriginal they can be. But there are a few that are must watches in my book.

“The Grinch” (2018)

This is the most recent must-watch I’ve discovered. Since it came out in 2018, I’ve hesitated to try this one out because I thought it was just another spinoff and had my doubts. But this movie exceeded my expectations and I found myself laughing throughout the whole movie. The new twist on “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” wasn’t overdone and the additions to the plot and storyline were modest.

This is by far one of my favorite movies of all time, it has become a classic in the world of Christmas movies. I watch it multiple times during the Christmas season at parties, family get-togethers and when I need a laugh on my own. The movie is cheesy but never fails to leave everyone’s stomach aching from laughter. It’s a must-see, especially this year when the Christmas spirit is lacking.

As a kid, this movie was terrifying.

The idea of a huge train picking you up and taking you to an unknown destination set off my anxiety. As I grew older, it turned into a movie that was relaxing and gave me a break from the typical Christmas movie. I would definitely consider this one as an “alternative” Christmas movie.

It’s not the typical bright and cheery with pops of color and frilly music and romance like most traditional movies, it’s a bit darker with a refreshing twist on what Christmas is really about. Not to mention the amazing animation that is quite easy on the eyes in my opinion.

“Little Women” (2019)

Featuring up and coming actors Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, this movie has a refreshingly modern spin on the original “Little Women.” I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing sets, costumes and how the actors portrayed the characters. This movie isn’t centered around Christmas and that’s what makes it an easy watch, the Christmas spirit weaves its way in and out of the plot line. If you haven’t already seen it, make a plan to, because this is a must-watch.

If you are into romcoms or Hallmark-like Christmas movies, then this one is for you. Featuring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman this movie catches the spirit while Bullock falls awkwardly in love with a man and his family. This is one of the only Christmas romances I can stand, but it really is all that it’s cracked up to be.
