Out with the old, in with the new fashion trends

Here's a recap of last year's fashion and what might stay leading into the new year.

Even with a pandemic raging throughout the globe, people managed to stay stylish this year. Here are some fashion trends from 2020, and a prediction into 2021.

Cashmere and argyle sweaters were a big trend last year. I don’t see the argyle pattern lasting into 2021, but cashmere is comfortable and soft, making it a good pandemic style.

Animal print, from leopard to tiger to snakeskin, made a comeback this past year. Some of these patterns are classy and timeless, where others could be more fleeting. Regardless, I see certain forms of animal print sticking around in this new year.

Chain necklaces were a cute way to dress up and accessorize outfits last year, and I certainly hope it stays. From gold to silver, adding a chain makes outfits more put together.

Wearing shades of brown was a hit style among teenagers last year and while I don’t see it lasting much longer into 2021, there could be a revival with elevated brown and neutral styles.

Sweater vests were another trend last year, and I don’t think they will be worn much in 2021. Wearing sweater vests with tennis skirts was a hit, but the way they are being worn now probably won’t be replicated in the new year.

Layering collared shirts under sweatshirts was a fun way to level up outfits, but this trend was pretty fleeting and didn’t last long. I see it being scattered throughout 2021, but not as a consistent trend.

2021 Prediction

Second skin tops have just started getting popular, and they could be a big trend in the new year. They’re easy to layer under sweaters and t-shirts, or wearing on top of a tank top. Either way, they’re a fun staple for anyone’s wardrobe.

Mesh shirts and tie details create a statement piece in any outfit. There are so many ways to style these kinds of shirts, and there will be many opportunities to wear them in 2021.

Miniskirts have been around for a long time, and I definitely see them staying in the new year. They will probably be styled in new and different ways, and this timeless style will be big in 2021.

Bold pants with unique prints became popular near the end of 2020, and there are many opportunities for new patterns and styles in 2021.

Jewelry trends that could be popular in 2021 are pearls with gold accents and also mixing gold and silver. Jewelry has always been important in dressing up an outfit, and the opportunities are endless in the new year.
