Roar reviews: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Fans of mystery movies have most likely seen the hit 2019 movie Knives Out, which follows a classic murder mystery plot line with an unexpected victim and the various characters trying to figure out the truth. The continuation of the adventurous movie, directed by Rian Johnson, was released on November 23, entitled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and is a great watch.

The movie follows seven main characters invited to an island by billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) to solve what they think is a pretend murder mystery game, but it quickly turns into something more when a guest turns up dead.

Glass Onion quickly became popular with its viewers. English Language Arts and Film Classics teacher Shelli Tabor really enjoyed the enigmatic movie, however she also does not think it compared to the first.

“I loved the characters. Daniel Craig was witty as in the first. However, I would say it was definitely false advertising to associate it with Knives Out,” Tabor said. “[Which] was and remains Oscar worthy. This did not have the magic, as lots of sequels fall short of originals.”

Glass Onion did have some connections to Knives Out, but I didn’t feel the two movies had a relationship like sequels usually do. Only one of the characters from the original film came back, thus it did not feel like an official sequel. I still really enjoyed it, but I wish it was more connected to the first film with its characters.

Having loved the first Knives Out, I don’t think Glass Onion was as good as the original but it is still a fun movie to watch. My favorite thing about the movie was that it was able to incorporate comedy while also being serious, mysterious and thrilling.

Glass Onion takes on the classic murder movie story with an interesting twist, and I really enjoyed that. It was also able to set up good storylines and backstories.

As well as a good storyline, the characters are all very likable and the actors did an amazing job.. I loved to see Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, and Kathryn Hahn on screen, because they all do an incredible job of portraying the characters’ emotions.

This action packed movie is also well known among students. Junior Sylvia VanCarterBerg felt that Glass Onion was an excellent film.

Glass Onion was immediately one of my favorite movies as soon as I watched it. Every character has perfect characteristics that they bring to the movie and it was so funny but also a perfect murder mystery,” VanCarterBerg said. “The length was perfect, I didn’t feel like it was too long, and there wasn’t any part that was boring.”

While I do wish it was more related to the first Knives Out, overall Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was a really interesting movie with amazing plot twists that kept me invested. I definitely recommend choosing this movie next time anyone is looking for a riveting new Netflix watch.
