Any student that has attended a Northview dance can attest to one major complain: the Disk Jockey (DJ). Homecoming was the last dance, and the DJ wasn’t a big hit. Many students complained about the previous DJ and his costume changes. However, change is on the wind. This year’s fling dance will have a new DJ that provides music and long lasting memories of a night of fun with friends.

Kevin Scarbnick, known as DJ Poppa Wheelie, earned the opportunity to showcase his DJ talents after his success at the middle school dances. He began his career in the district at last year’s Dynamic Duo Dance. Scarbinick was hired to take over this year’s fling, which is Saturday.

Kevin Scarbnick is a Wildcat himself, graduating from the high school in 1992.

“I’m excited because my daughter and her friends are seniors,” Scarbnick said. “I got to watch them grow up, so it will be really cool to see them at their last dances.”

Said daughter and senior Molly Scarbnick is currently on the varsity competitive cheer team. Kevin Scarbnick has helped the cheer team in the past with song choices for the homecoming assembly routine.

“I can help him pick songs and tell him what my classmates like,” Scarbnick said. “I’m excited, because I know [this dance] will be better than in the past.”

Senior Logan Kreitner has attended a few dances throughout his first two years at the high school. However, there was one major thing stopping him from not going to some of the dances the past couple years.

“I’ve gone to three [dances] throughout the years, and I thought I would’ve had fun,” Kreitner said. “But the DJ’s have been a huge let down.”

Not only does Scarbnick DJ at events around in the district, but he also works at other schools like Zeeland and Kelloggsville.

Scarbnick has skills that sets him apart from other DJs.

“I can read the crowd, [and] I play what they want,” Scarbnick said. “Not what I enjoy,  but what the audience wants.”

Kreitner is excited hearing about Scarbnick being the new DJ.

“I am pumped,” Kreitner said. “I can’t wait for Kevin to start spinning the tracks. If you don’t go, you’re missing out.”
