One dollar for meat sticks

Senior Graham DePue shows off the varieties of meat sticks he sells.

“Meat sticks! One dollar!” The familiar call has become commonplace in the halls of Northview High School. It almost wouldn’t be a normal day without it.

Senior Graham DePue, known by most as “the meat stick guy,” has been selling varieties of the snacks for over a month. Though he has made more than $600, none of it has gone into his bank account.

Every penny goes right back where it came from: Scouts BSA (formerly known as Boy Scouts of America). The money goes to one of two places in the organization: either a general fund for his troop (of which he has been a part of for eight years, advancing to the esteemed position of Eagle Scout) or a personal account within the troop to fund any of the adventurous and sometimes rather insane campouts.

Most recently Troop 219 camped on Mackinac Island back in September. The next campout is sometime in December and according to DePue, “hopefully when [the] snow starts, because we always like a winter camp out.”

However, due to laws and policies forbidding the sale or distribution of food outside of certain nutritional requirements, Friday, November 1 will be the last day meat sticks are sold, so get them while you can.

In case you forgot – they’re only one dollar.
