Starting a new job can be stressful and difficult. Less than 3 months ago, Nicole Mulheisen began her new position as Athletic Director Administrative Assistant and enjoys the positive atmosphere and humble leaders involved.
Mulheisen’s new role consists of taking care of the sports teams, handling the payroll and making sure things move smoothly.
“This position came up because [Mary] Parmerlee retired after 15 years. So I just talked it over with my husband and it was the time to make a move,” Mulheisen said.
Mulheisen previously worked in the Student Responsibility Center (SRC). However, due to COVID-19, the SRC is currently not available for student use. The SRC situation and the retirement of Parmerlee, opened up an opportunity for Mulheisen to step into her new role in the Athletic Department.
Mulheisen found interest in working in the district after attending Northview herself, and has been working for Northview for 13 years.
During her days as a Wildcat, Muhleisen was a year-round, three sport athlete, and won a state championship with the softball team in 1991.
“It was fun, we had a great team. It’s a memory we will never forget,” Mulheisen said.
Continuing to put state titles up on the boards is something Mulheisen strives for as new and talented student athletes continue to advance the sports programs.
Mulheisen also pushes the importance of female athletes and their success.
“I love being in athletics because I don’t think as a female, we really experience that. We need to win more and I feel like we need to change that culture,” Mulheisen said. “I wanted to see more females excel in sports, And I’m not saying we have bad sports for the girls, but I want to see state titles, I do. It doesn’t matter what sport you play or whatever you do, I just want to see that.”
Mulheisen has worked with kids her entire career. From starting in Juvenile Justice, to a Northview volunteer, to the SRC and now to the Athletic Director Administrative Assistant. The ability to support kids and help them through difficult times is something that she truly enjoys.
“I just was always driven to change them,”Mulheisen said. “No kids are bad to me, each kid has a different path and different life so I always had that drive to work with kids.”
Mulheisen loves to see young students change for the better and grow into their true selves as time goes by. She sees hope for the future of the athletic program as she works alongside where she grew her love for sports as well.
Like they always say, “Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.”
