Senior Carly Underhill is a star student here at Northview.

Participating in basketball, varsity soccer, National Honor Society (NHS), doing 4 AP classes at the moment and being on the drumline in marching band for four years, Underhill is always kept busy during the school year.

While doing all of these things, it can get hectic, but Underhill organizes her time to make sure she is kept on track.

“It can be stressful but honestly it just comes from practice and time management and I think I’ve been able to manage my time pretty well throughout my high school career,” Underhill said.

Underhill enjoys being a part of all of these activities, but there is one that she loves more than others.

“Soccer definitely is a sport that I’m most passionate about,” Underhill said.

She enjoys playing the sport a lot and is very interested in playing in college.

Motivation is a key thing for an athlete and Underhill gets hers from the people around her.

“I get motivation a lot from my parents because both my parents were able to be college athletes, and my dad specifically was able to play basketball for Grand Valley and I find that if I look up to him and what he was able to accomplish with his athletic career, then I’m able to better myself just looking at that,” Underhill said.

She is also inspired to get better from being around her teammates.

“When I see them doing something really well it makes me want to do better as well,” Underhill said.

There are many benefits to playing sports and doing extracurriculars, and for Underhill, the people she meets are the thing she enjoys the most about participating in these activities. She gets to hang out with various people during different sports seasons.

“I just love being able to get close to different people and be able to make new friends in sports,” Underhill said.

Hanging out with friends is her favorite thing to do when she is not in school or at practice.

“What I enjoy doing during my downtime is being able to just hang out and chill and not have to worry about what homework I have or what game I have coming up,” Underhill said.

As a senior, Underhill is getting ready to be done with high school and move on to college for her bright future.

“It makes me kinda sad but I’m also excited for the future because I feel like college is definitely going to be a nice next step in my life. I feel like it’s just a chance to better myself even more and become the person I really want to be,” Underhill said.
