Twinning and winning

Sophomore twin sisters Ashley and Cassidy Sanders are two rising stars for Northview athletics. Both participate in four sports including lacrosse, basketball, and track. In the fall, Ashley plays on the golf team and Cassidy is a part of the cross country team.

Both girls are focused on improving any way that they can. Whether it be on the track, basketball court, or lacrosse field, they’re always working.

“I want to overall get better at every sport I play,” Ashley said.

To work on taking their game to the next level, the girls set goals for themselves.

“[One goal] I have is getting all-conference for cross country by the end of my senior year,” Cassidy said.

“I want to improve, not just stay the same,” Ashley added.

The Sanders twins both have the drive to win no matter what it takes.

“I’m really competitive so I may come off as strong or rude, but I want to win,” Ashley said. “I want to work as a team and accomplish a lot.”

Nothing is given to someone or some team without effort. Countless hours of hard work go on behind the scenes, in the weight room and on the practice field. For the Sanders, they never really have an off-season.

“For people who aren’t in a sport, practicing in the off-season more is needed,” Cassidy said.

Senior teammate Isabel Toole appreciates the Sanders work ethic.

“They both come to practice everyday with lots of energy,”  Toole said. “They are such fun teammates to have and be around. They know when to have fun during practice and when it’s time to focus.”

The Sanders twins also value teamwork.

“Even when you make mistakes, always be there for your teammates,” Ashley said. “When you’re closer, you play better together. It always makes the sport more fun.”

Having a tight bond with your teammates can lead to successful outcomes.

“We both started on varsity when we won conference champs for lacrosse,” Ashley said. “Our whole team was really close.”

The future shines bright for the Sanders twins. Although they are just sophomores, it’s never too early to think about what comes next after high school.

“I could see myself playing lacrosse after high school,” Ashley said.

“I want to [continue athletics] but I don’t really know which sport I would play, but I’d want to for at least one,” Cassidy added.
