As dark and cold as the winter months are, students are anticipating the Fling dance.
Other schools call their winter formal by a few different names such as “Swirl”, “Snowball” or the “Sadie Hawkins” dance. All the names mean the same thing, where girls are encouraged to break social traditions and ask a guy to accompany them.
The history of the Sadie Hawkins dance originates from a comic strip called “Lil Abner. In the comic, Sadie Hawkins was known as the homeliest girl in town. Her father attempted to find a husband for her. With no luck Sadie organized a to ask one of the men in town to be her husband on her own.This was supposed to open up the opportunities for girls to make the first move.
Fling is February 12 from 7-10pm, it will take place in the cafeteria. The theme is Candyland and the admission cost is $20 a ticket. Tickets can be purchased during both A and B lunch from the 7th through the 11th. This Fling dance, guests are allowed with approval from the office.
