Homecoming week: what to expect

The student section showing their support for the varsity football team on Friday, September 17th, 2021, USA out.

As the first official Homecoming week since 2019 approaches, there’s a lot to expect. This year, the Student Council has been planning out each detail since the beginning of the school year, holding weekly meetings to prepare.

With the starting of new traditions and the continuation of old ones, here is what to expect for the 2021 Homecoming week.

Monday: Theme: Class Colors

(Freshman- purple, sophomores- pink, juniors- blue, seniors- red)

Tuesday: Theme: Country vs. Country Club

Country vs. Country Club is a newer theme to Northview. In basic summary, students choose to either dress up with more of a “cowboy/country aesthetic” or you dress up with more of a “preppy” aesthetic.

Wednesday: Theme: Twin day

On Wednesday, one of the biggest games of the week, Powderpuff. For around two weeks, junior and senior girls have been coached by players of the varsity football team, to play a good ole’ game of football. Every year, the juniors are determined to win even though everyone knows that the seniors somehow always win. The game will be held at 7pm at the Wildcat Stadium, with an admission fee of $3.

Twin day allows students to pick another student to match with, in any way they desire.

Thursday: Theme: Decade day (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s)

Students get to choose their favorite decade and dress accordingly. Decades day relates back to our Homecoming theme as well.

Friday: Theme: Spirit Day

As the week comes to an end, the fun has just begun. During the last two hours of the school day, the student council brings together the student body out to the football stadium to take part in the Homecoming assembly.

Taking a look into the assembly,  they have a performance from the cheer team, the court dance, the egg toss, relays and more to look forward to.

Before the game, starting at 5:30pm, the parade will start to roll out. This year, expect underclassmen/upperclassmen themed floats, the Homecoming court and more!

The varsity football team takes on Lowell for the Homecoming game, starting at 7pm, with the theme: Neon out. Following the game, the Homecoming Court Ceremony follows at the stadium, leaving the night  with the 2021 Homecoming King and Queen crowned.

Saturday: Homecoming Dance

The waiting has finally come to an end, giving us the biggest dance of the year. The dance is on October 9th and starts at 7pm and ends at 10. Even with the theme, students do not have to base their dance attire according to the theme. Tickets for the dance will be available for purchase during lunches throughout the Homecoming week.

This isn’t all.

This year, the Student Council will bring back the fight for the Spirit Cup (shown below). The class that gives the most energy and school spirit throughout the entirety of the week wins the Spirit Cup.

May the best class win.
