Lettuce Eat!

“I’m pretty sure it was a meme last year,” senior Ryleigh Angstman said.

On Friday, January 25 the Lettuce Club held its first meeting, which happened to be a public eating competition.

Angstman, president of the new club, gardened the Lettuce Club last year with the help of Mr. Bollone after students joked about a famous meme involving eating the leafy green as fast as possible.

Together they brainstormed ideas about what rules to enforce and how they would go about creating it. Although plans weren’t finalized by the end of last year, the Lettuce Club came ready to go at the start of this school year.

The rules are simple; bring your own head of lettuce, choose one dressing, and eat it as fast as humanly possible.

Crime scene tape enclosed the participants and a large clock displayed the time. Anticipation for the first annual competition was high, yet numerous individuals deemed they “forgot their lettuce.”

Freshmen Marvin Colberts and Olena Ellison both bravely competed against one another. Colberts had high hopes to win, whereas Ellison participated solely for competition.

As the competition heated up numerous students gathered around with cacophonous cheers, all of which fueled the competitors eating and served as Colberts most enjoyable moment.

“All the people were clapping and taking pictures of us,” Colberts said.

Both competitors tried to get a-head of one another while eating, however, the green vegetable became impossible to continue eating.

Angstman was unable to determine a winner as both individuals ate about the same amount, therefore, the competition was concluded as a draw.

The Lettuce Club will be held annually. Please get a-head and buy your lettuce early, however Colberts is coming back to win it next year so get ready!
