On Thanksgiving night, the Northview community faced a devastating tragedy following the loss of 2023 graduate Nevaeh Downs. Downs left a gap in the lives of many after her unfortunate passing due to a motor-vehicle accident.

During her time at Northview, Downs was an active member in a variety of activities, including being a staff member on The Roar, Varsity swim, dance, soccer, lacrosse as well as Student Educators and Listeners (SEALS) where she would mentor Pre-K students.

Friends and family members produced a multitude of statements online in regards to Downs’ passing. Fellow 2023 graduate Evan Arnold was on the swim team and worked a part time job at Cinco De Mayo with Downs. Arnold released this passage online sharing her grief.

“Nevaeh- you are forever my teammate, swim buddy, coworker and friend,” Arnold said. “You’ve always been the hardest worker I’ve ever met, and you’ve truly inspired me over the years; whether it be in the pool, weight room or as a server. I will miss your beautiful smile, your contagious laugh and our countless closing shifts. I hope you have an endless supply of jumex, takis and dolce and gabbana perfume. You have changed my life for the better. I’ll miss you endlessly.”

The Downs family has released an obituary which was “inspired and crafted by the many people that loved and knew her.”

Following her graduation, Downs attended Grand Rapids Community College. In her honor, family and friends began a GoFundMe in order to raise money to establish a scholarship fund at the college.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 2:00 pm at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Ave NW, Comstock Park, MI. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the Downs family and attend a visitation from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.
