The boys varsity bowling team took home the State Championship crown this past weekend. In an impressive tournament run with multiple close finishes, Northview was able to knock off Tecumseh High School in the final.

Starting off the tournament, Northview faced the defending state champions Divine Child. With help from freshman star Cadyn Pranger, the Cats were able to advance to the semi-finals winning 1460-1331. Pranger had a successful match, scoring 298 for his team, just 2 pins off of a perfect game.

In the semi-final match, the Cats were seeking revenge. They faced Jackson Northwest who had knocked them out of the tournament the previous two seasons.

“It ended up being a very close match and came down to the wire,” head coach Harold Klukowski said. “Our lone senior on the team Dawson Dewitt led us that round with a 218.”

Winning by a score of 1347-1323, the Wildcats advanced to the state finals, seeking the schools first State Championship since 2010, when the boys soccer team went the distance.

The championship match was a true nail biter against Tecumseh. After being down early in the duo match, the Cats had to battle back.

“In the finals we were down by 8 after the baker games, but we came back having three individuals post a score over 200,” Klukowski said.

Sophomore David Frey led the way in the final match with a 217 score. He stepped up big when the team needed him most.

The final score was 1287-1229 and for the first time in school history, the Wildcat bowling team was division 2 state champions.

Junior Kyle Pranger won the individual state championship last year, but this season meant more winning it with his team.

“The look on everyone’s face after we won was amazing,” Pranger said. “Everyone put in so much work all year to get to this point and I’m just happy I could help the guys get one of their own and Northview get their first one.”
