This past Wednesday, May 11, the girl’s varsity lacrosse team defeated Mona Shores in an 11-1 blow out, clinching their second consecutive conference championship title and placing them in good standing for the upcoming district tournament.

Leading up to the much anticipated game, the lady Wildcats were confident in their victory. The team had shut out the Sailors 13-0 earlier in the season.

Their self-assurance was not unfounded. By halftime, Northview had a healthy four goal cushion, leading Mona Shores 5-1 .

Junior attack Lauren Walsh excelled Wednesday night, scoring a hat trick of her five shot attempts.

“Scoring those goals felt good, but the girls were passing really well, and we had really good patience,” Walsh said. “Getting our seniors in positions to score on their night was important.”

On the other side of the ball, junior goalie Siena Ramirez proved themself with a handful of impressive saves.

The victory was especially significant for the team’s four seniors. Not only did they serve as back-to-back conference champs, but May 12 was their last hurrah in Wildcat Stadium.

Senior and team co-captain Allison Meeuwenberg felt that the team dynamic contributed to a successful senior night.

“It was a great game, because we were all so focused on the team as a whole,” Meeuwenberg said. “The juniors and underclassmen really stepped it up to help us have the best senior night possible.”

Despite steam-rolling the OK White Conference, the Wildcats are still hungry for more. Thursday, May 26, the ladies take on the 9-4 Caledonia Fighting Scots in the first round of districts at home.

Although this is no easy feat, Meeuwenberg feels very confident that the team will make it far.

“We worked our butts off for this. It wasn’t by chance. It was because of hard work and teamwork, and I personally wouldn’t trade it for anything,” Meeuwenberg said. “This season was a great indication of how we can play as a team. We still have a few more games before we move into the playoffs, which should be a really good streak.”
