What’s happening with fall sports

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced on September 3 that all organized sports can proceed.

While lower risk sports like girls golf, cross country and boys tennis were able to start competition prior to the announcement, close contact sports such as boys soccer, girls volleyball and girls swim and dive were left in limbo until Whitmer could make a decision Football was previously planned to move to spring 2021 on August 14.

But now under Whitmer’s executive order, it allowed immediate start of boys soccer games.  Girls swim and dive and girls volleyball followed in suit and were able to start competition on Wednesday, September 9. It also let sports practice and compete indoors while social distancing and wearing masks when not being able to be six feet apart.

Whitmer also cleared football, which allowed the Michigan High School Athletic Association to reinstate the season for this fall. Northview will play their first game on Friday, September 18 against Greenville.

Due to social distancing guidelines, there will be no student section at football games this fall. Players and coaches are allotted two spectators at each fall sports competitions. With this decision Northview has decided to drop all entrance fee costs to sports games, matches and meets.

There are no current decisions regarding winter sports.
