Summer 2021 fashion trends

As summer approaches, people are beginning to ditch their jackets and sweaters for clothes more warm weather suitable. Trends seen this past winter will translate into summer styles. Here are some predictions for upcoming summer 2021 trends.

Baby tees:

These tight, usually cropped t-shirts with cap sleeves have been trending throughout the year. With the warm weather soon approaching, they will become more popular as people ditch the layers.

Knitwear:

When people think of knitwear, a warm sweater typically comes to mind. However, crochet tank tops have made their way into the mainstream and many have found a way to make these shirts at home. Knitwear tank tops are great on their own or can be paired with an opened button-down over top.

Button-downs:

Short sleeve button downs make the perfect bathing suit cover-up or statement piece. When not at the beach, these shirts are often paired with light-colored, cropped tank tops and denim shorts. They also look great with matching linen pants. Unique prints can be found at most thrift stores.

Platform sandals:

Throughout the winter, platform sneakers and boots have snuck their way into trendy fashion. This is certainly going to continue throughout the summer as platform sandals will be a good alternative for the warmer weather.

Floral dresses:

Short, tighter dresses will be all the rage this summer, especially in pastel colors and floral prints. They are easy to accessorize and make more unique to a personal style. Chunky sneakers, jackets and kitten heels all work with these versatile dresses.

“Big pants, little shirt”:

Although shorts usually dominate the summer, the “big pants” seen this winter will stay throughout the summertime. These can be anything from straight leg/mom jeans to loose cargo pants. Pants can give off a summer feel when worn with the baby tees mentioned above or other “little shirts” like the knitwear bralettes and cropped tank tops.

Homemade and layered jewelry:

Quarantine has led to a lot of new hobbies, including “do-it-yourself” jewelry. Tutorials can be found all over the internet and would make a great rainy day activity. This summer, people will be wearing their homemade crystal rings, friendship bracelets, and beaded necklaces. These pieces are bound to be layered with chain and pearl necklaces and would be great additions to any of the outfits mentioned earlier.

Clips, braids, and more:

Big banana clips are a near-effortless way to wear hair up in a more stylish alternative to a ponytail. Along with that, adding little details to simple hairstyles add a little spice to otherwise plain hairstyles. Small braids will be added into low buns, ponytails, and even with hair simply worn down. Like VSCO summer (2019), people will wrap colorful string into chunks of hair, weave beads into braids, and even string tinsel throughout their hair.
