On Thursday, September 11, Deputy Andy Kozal was officially promoted to Sergeant for the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.

Every two years, after extensive testing, a list is formed to see who is able to be promoted to Sergeant. Out of the 11 who made the list, Kozal was number six.

Although Kozal originally planned to be Northview’s school officer for only four years, he’s been here for almost 13. In that time he’s been able to watch the students he’s known since kindergarten become seniors.

“I’m not leaving because I don’t like it. I love it here. It’s just my next step. I’ll miss Northview immensely,” Kozal said.

Deputy Mike Allen has been hired to replace Kozal. Deputy Allen plans to join the district on October 21, but the transition will take about two weeks. Kozal’s last day as Northview’s school resource officer will be November 1.
