Northview copy cats

On November 22, the Instagram account “northview.sleeping” was created. The account, featuring student-submitted photos of peers sleeping at school, erupted with popularity and now has over 700 followers.

Along with its growth in popularity, the account has also acquired numerous copy-cat accounts.

“Northview.posture,” “northview.shoes,” “northview_hair,” etc.

With the accumulation of accounts, students are becoming upset due to the lack of consent with the postings on the pages.

Northview student Braelynn Rau was one of many students pictured on the accounts.

“I didn’t know [that I was posted] until after someone told me,” Rau said, “I kind of found it funny but they weren’t the best photos so that wasn’t very cool.”

One student started a new account, “northview_stop,” where screenshots of new Northview accounts are called out for posting without consent.

All of the Northview accounts have allured students but not necessarily in a good way. Students are beginning to realize the lack of consent with these new accounts. Although it can be entertaining to witness the embarrassing moments of peers, not everyone finds this acceptable.

To some, the accounts are seen as an invasion of privacy, while others see them as innocent and comical.
